The German Pinscher is an elegant, medium-sized working breed that stands as one of Germany's oldest dog varieties, with documentation of Pinscher-type dogs dating to the late eighteenth century. As a progenitor of both the Doberman Pinscher and the Miniature Pinscher, the German Pinscher occupies a pivotal place in working dog history, yet it remains relatively rare outside of Germany. Standing 17 to 20 inches at the shoulder and weighing 25 to 45 pounds, the breed presents a sleek, well-muscled silhouette with a glossy short coat in fawn, red, blue, or black and tan.
